THE BEST TIME FOR NEWBORN PHOTOS

Back to JournalFebruary 24, 20264 min read

Why the first two weeks matter and how to prepare for your baby's first professional portrait session.

One of the most common questions I receive from expecting parents is about timing. When is the best time to photograph a newborn? The answer is simple: within the first 5 to 14 days of life.

Why So Early?

During these first precious days, babies are still incredibly sleepy and naturally curl into those adorable poses we all love. They haven't yet developed the startle reflex that makes them jump at sounds, and their skin still has that beautiful newborn softness.

Preparing for Your Session

Book your session during your second trimester so we can plan everything in advance. Once your baby arrives, simply let me know and we'll confirm the exact date based on your recovery and baby's schedule.

What to Expect

Newborn sessions typically last two to three hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing. I keep the studio warm and comfortable, and I move at your baby's pace. There is never any rush.

Parent and Sibling Poses

Some of the most treasured images from newborn sessions include those tender moments with parents and siblings. The way a father's hands dwarf a tiny newborn, or the wonder in a toddler's eyes meeting their new sibling — these are the moments that make my heart sing.

Safety First

Every pose and prop is chosen with your baby's safety as the absolute priority. I am trained in newborn safety and never place a baby in a position that isn't fully supported.
